A Cat Tale and Friday Fillins

Remember the scarf that I finished with Noro Silk Garden that I have yet to take a picture of? It was lying on my bed last night waiting for me to weave in one more end and my cats found it. They think this is the most wonderful yarn in the world and would like a bed made out of it. I looked over and Jack and Onyx were laying there nuzzling up to it like it was their mama and fell asleep on it. I told them that it needed to be dry-cleaned, but they just yawned and turned over. I evidently love my kitties more than I should.

1. The last band I saw live was too long ago to remember.
2. What I look forward to most on Thanksgiving is being with family and sharing the cooking with my daughters.
3. My Christmas/holiday shopping is not even thought of yet.
4. Thoughts of sugarplums fill my head.
5. I wish I could wear skinny jeans without looking like a ballon on a stick.
6. Bagpipes are very cool.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to nothing but reading and knitting, tomorrow my plans include making bread, knitting, watching the snow and Sunday, I want to do the same thing all over again!

Whiskers on Wednesday

Okay, the Devil Cat, aka Onyx, is in deep doo doo. DD2 was in my room talking to me while I got dressed yesterday morning and that meant that the entire zoo was up there too. We looked around and Devil Cat was urinating on my pillow (and through the pillow, the comforter, all the sheets and the mattress pad)! I could not believe what I was seeing. And it wasn’t just a little, I-am-going-to-mark-my-territory type of pee, no, it was I-am-going-to-empty-my-bladder-on-mom’s-bed sort of pee. I am so mad at her I could spit, and she knows it. She is going to the vet to make sure she doesn’t have an UTI and then I am going to string her up by the tail (not literally, just in my dreams). GRRRRR The sad part is she was so cute the night before, she crawled up under the comforter, curled up, and went to sleep. Last night all cats were closed out of my bedroom!

It is still cold here (43F), but no snow last night, which is a good thing, but now they are predicting it for rush hour. Thank goodness, it isn’t cold enough to stick!

Whiskers on Wednesday

My kitties, Jack and Onyx have been especially cuddly and clingy lately (I think it is because Di is not scaring them away from me). So Jack and Onyx have been fighting over who can sit on my feet while I work from home, once they argue about it, they normally both curl up on my feet and go to sleep until I disturb them. The really hate it when I take their picture when they are under my desk, as you can tell by the glare in the Devil Cats eyes.

Jill (DD2’s cat) checks on me at night (and wakes me up) but she is the funniest cat. Demands that I keep the water bowl in my room filled for her (she is the only one that uses it) and she will get pissy with me until I do.
Aren’t cats great!

Chatter and Friday Fillins

Remember back here when I discussed furry cats and shaving them?? Well, I have decided it is easier to live with furry floors. We did shave Jack, but DD1 who is living in Georgia was the one who used to be in charge of shaving and was much better at it than DD2 and I, we did not get nearly as much hair off and we were very messy about it. Jack loves being without the hair, though he is not so fond of the process; he always gets more hugs, loves and pets once he is shaved because his fur is so thick and he has dandruff.

KnittySue recently had a contest that involved showing the contestants work space or table with all the paraphernalia that is kept in the area. It was fun to go and look at everyone’s work area, some of them had lotttttttts of stuff and it made me wonder how pets were kept out of the stuff. My cats are very nosy and if I leave anything out they will deliberately knock it on the floor and tear it up. Everyone else must have pets with better manners.

Guess What, I got to knit last night for 3 whole rows! Yeah!!!!! Project Runway started last night and I watched and knit. Maybe someday I will get to knit a whole project?!

ffi
1. I remember, I remember how to knit and when television was mostly black and white.
2. Dear Dear Daughters, I want you to know that you are both wonderful women.
3. Is that my pair of leggings on your legs!!???
4. I'm trying to resist the temptation of walking out the door of the office and deciding not to work for the next week.
5. I'm saving a hug just for you!
6. If I made a birthday list all of my pretend friends would definitely be on it!!!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to working late and then vegging, tomorrow my plans include working, and doing 4 rows of knitting and Sunday, I want to veg, but will be preparing the house for company!

Yuck . . .

I am in such a horrible mood I cannot stand myself. I think I need to knit more. . .
The fur floating around on the floors of my house is killing me. If I clean the floor this morning (which isn’t going to happen), they are covered in hair by evening. DD2 vacuumed the furniture in the living room yesterday and it looks almost like new. So tonight, I think we are shaving the cats; hopefully they will look like this in the morning-

But I think they will get more of their heads and paws shaved if we can.

Whiskers on Wednesday

Today is WOW so I have to tell you about my silly cats. All three of them have been house cats forever, but we have been using our deck a lot since the weather has warmed up. We like to go out there to play cards, eat, and chat; we've been leaving the door open so all of the animals will come out with us, the deck is on the second floor so it is quite high and we do not have to worry about the cats wandering off. Jill and Onyx are loving this, in fact, we have a hard time getting Jill (she is the solid gray or Russian blue, depending on who you ask) back in the house. Sometimes we close the door and wait for her to ask to come in. The other night, I told DD2 to make sure that Jill was in the house before she went to bed, and DD2 being her normal self, ignored me as it did not have anything to do with that silly computer game, W0W. The next morning when I got up, poor Jill was sitting at the window screaming to come in, and her face kind of looked like the picture. I have never seen anything funnier, the poor kitty was so upset. We let her in, cuddled her, fed her, and she was very happy! However the part I find the funniest is that the next night when we went out, she was right there with us, rolling around in the deck chair, soaking up the air. How many humans do you know would have gone out there again?

Have a great evening!

Whiskers on Wednesday

Like any fool that has more pets than sense, I purchased a Furminator in an attempt to control some of the pet hair roaming through my house. When we got home Sunday, we had to vacuum the furniture before we could sit down, (in fact that ranked up there with cleaning the litter boxes) they turned our red couch grey and the olive chair was black. I don’t even have to discuss the dogs, as they both hate the furminator and won’t come near me when they see it in my hand; however, Jackie boy loves it. Jack is our fattest (and fluffiest) cat and the most sensitive about being touched. If I reach out for him, he will pull away, but if I am sitting still, he will come up and pat me with his paw telling me he wants loves. I was sitting on the floor paying cards last night, Jack did his normal patting routine for attention, and I petted him for a few minutes, noticed the Furminator sitting near at hand, and started using it on him. He loved it. He didn’t even mind when I ran it down his back in the wrong direction. I must have pulled a pound of hair off him and he enjoyed every second of it. Of course, this drove Onyx nuts, she can’t stand it when Jack receives attention she feels should be hers, so she proceeded to sit next to me and ignore us both. Therefore, when Jack finally was bored and moved on, I started on her. She hated the Furminator when we first purchased it and would not let anyone use it on her, but I guess watching Jack enjoy it made her think it was cool (cats are so human about some things) so let me use it on her. But Onyx decided that the best part was playing with the fur I had already removed and thought it was keen fun to bat it around, I guess it was very soft to play with.

Jill, of course, is such a b-cat, she would not let me go near her with the Furminator, she just glares at me.

Knitting and WOW

I gave J his scarf last night, aka The Darn scarf, and he put it on and wrapped it around his neck a zillion times. It was the perfect size for him and looks as though it will keep him warm. I am back to working on the scarf for DD1’s boyfriend. I dug out my Knitpicks number 11 needles and things are moving right along.

I am now tired of scarves and want to start a pair of fingerless gloves that have a sort of flip top for DD1, though who knows how long they will take me to finish. Nevertheless, I need to make a scarf for DD2 and me, as the cold weather here is not finished, even if it is supposed to be 63 today, so I am not yet through with scarves (but they sure can be boring). I cannot decide on a pattern for my alpaca (and no one has suggested one yet, hint, hint.)

My kitties are lying on my bed soaking up the sun (and filing my bed with cat hair) as I type. They always act so innocent during the day, however by night they are evil creatures, kind of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I have a permanent Goodwill box in my loft that we add stuff to as we come across more stuff and it is currently half-full. Well, last night the “Evil Three” decided they needed to go through it to make sure I was not throwing anything of theirs out, so the little buggers tipped it over and spread the stuff all over the loft. There were sheets in the box and they have them all unfolded and nasty looking, so I will be washing them before they go to Goodwill. I wonder what makes cats so curious (nosy) that they want to go through a box like that, they have toys and things to play with, but they still have more fun tearing up things they are not supposed to get into. The “Evil Three” manage to get into something every single night.

I hope everyone is having a great and productive day.

SNOW and Pictures

It snowed again; my area recieved more than a foot of the powdery white stuff. I am almost positive I will be cleaning out the garage in January so I can park there, but for today I was lucky I did not have to go in as you can see by this picture. The one below is the drift at my back door.I felt very sorry for my poor Di when I let her out this morning

This is a pix of the three small hats I sent to Marilyn last night, they will be okay, but as I said earlier, I will not be knitting with that yarn again. YUCKY!

Well, the Big Ass Wrap was frogged. I hated the way the ends were curling, an since I am using such a bulky yarn for this one, the curl was awful. So I frogged the entire thing (it was more than half done) and restarted the whole thing with a garter stitch edge. This picture below is the start of the new one, I kind of like the way the garter stitch looks at
the bottom edge. I am trying to decide what color to use for the embroidery on either end (very basic) with a few crystal beads. I found a scarf pin to be used with it, though the picture is crummy, it is very cute owl, I think my daughter will like it.
I hope everyone has a happy and productive day!

Whiskers on Wednesday

I am working from home today in hopes that I can get this obnoxious report done in this lifetime and this means that all of the animals are in the office keeping me company. A perfect time to procrastinate and to take pictures:-). Can you tell my cats have lost a little weight? (Please pretend that you cannot see the boxes sitting around.)

Whiskers on Wednesday

What says Halloween more than a black cat ruling the roost?

All three of our cats are on a diet, so they will not be trick or treating this year, Onyx has a problem with her knee cap slipping (I thought she had an inner ear infection she was sooooo clumsy). When I took her to the vet about how clumsy she was, the vet said she had to lose weight or her knee would give out totally (she weighed 14 pounds, nothing compared to Jack’s 22 pounds), so all three cats had to go on the diet (especially since Jack was the fattest and the laziest.) They have been complaining vociferously, letting us know that they are not getting enough to eat. The three cats now share a can of cat food every morning (mixed with chondroiton/glucosamine) and then they get 1 cup of dry food in the evening (so they let me sleep). The diet is working though, Jack, the fattest of the three of them has lost the most, and he now likes to play again. Onyx is still being pissy about it and has lost the least. Jill now looks great and does not need to lose any more, so I have to make sure she gets to eat first every morning or Onyx would eat it all and poor Jill would wither away. Why isn’t it as easy to put myself on a diet as it has been for the cats?

Happy Halloween

Whiskers on Wednesday

This is Jack and Jill, the brother and sister I adopted about 5 years ago from the vets office. Someone had dropped them off on the doorstep of the office, so they took them in and cleaned them up and found someone (me) who likes cats to adopt them. The do not look anything alike to me but they are fun and cuddly and lovable. Jill (the almost solid gray) likes to play with stuffed animals when the dogs leave them; she cuddles them and rubs up against them. Jack is a lover, and he likes to lay on me for pets and loves, even though he weighs almost 20 lbs, he does not realize it and loves to walk on my side, poking his toes into the few places where there are bones on my body. When Jack wants attention and everyone is busy, he will lay spread eagled on the floor, waiting for one of us to notice him.

Whiskers on Wednesdays

This is my baby, Onyx (of course all of my pets are my babies) however she is somewhat special. She has a great attitude; she loves White cheddar crackers and chicken noodle soup and has been known to eat salad. She rules the roost until she sees Di (the Dalmatian), and then she is the mad dasher. Onyx likes to play stealth kitty, hiding under goose down comforters, sheets or under the skirts on the sofa.

My daughter told me she wanted another cat and I told her no, we had enough animals and the vet bills are enormous when everyone needs shots and Di has to see the cardiologist. Well, when the kitty was 6 weeks old she walked in the door with her and it was love at first sight (she knows I cannot resist a baby or an animal when they need love). Poor Onyx was crying and fussing, I picked her up and started cuddling her and she went to sleep in my arms, and that was all she wrote :-)

She is very mischievous, but when she wants cuddles, watch out. Onyx will cry as if the world is ending until I sit down and cuddle her. She has been known to wake me up in the night if she wants attention or food. Moreover, once she gets what she wants she cuddles up and goes to sleep. She has stayed all black (when we originally got her I thought she would develop white patches) and she is amazing to watch.

When she was smaller, she would sit on my shoulder while I would knit, if she decided I had knit long enough, she would start playing catch with the needles until I stopped. This was a great reason to buy a set of Options from Knitpicks, no ends for her to catch:-)

As you can tell my Onyx is my kitty, but I think I love all my pets and only wish I could rescue some kitties here in Colorado.

Dogs (and Cats) on Thursday

Well, I took all of the animals to get their identification chip implant on Saturday, and it was great fun (not!) It was sponsored by the local Animal Shelter and there were many animals there, and not just the four-legged kind. We got there early, since we did not know if they were limited to the number of id’s they would do that day, and the shelter had not yet opened. Fortunately, we were the first ones there, because the line when we came out was long, hot, and noisy. One man was practically in tears when his bulldog received his, he said it did not bother him when his kids got shots, but he felt sorry for Roscoe (the dog).

We took the three cats and the dogs and they never flinched when they had the giant needle put into their skin. We then took the cats home and took the dogs to Petsmart to buy new collars for everyone. Poor Lola was terrified as a pit bull looked at her and started drooling. Di was so busy smelling all the new smells she didn’t even look at him. Why do people get such mean looking dogs and then not control them when they take them out in public? Then we took them to the ice cream shop that gives doggy size portions with a dog bone for a treat, the dogs get so excited when they see this place, that it is fun to take them there.

Aren’t pets great?
