Actual Knitting Picture

I finally took a picture that is knitting related!! Here is the picture of the scarf that my cats like so much, it is the Yarn Harlots one row scarf using Noro Silk Garden, sorry it is so dark, we haven’t had sun for a few days. I like it and hope my daughter will also, though it hasn’t yet gotten really cold in IA/IL so we will see. I am getting ready to start a beret to match, I purchased this yarn intending to make me a sweater, but I am not sure I would want a sweater out of this color. Have you ever purchased yarn intending to use it for a purpose and then a year later couldn’t imagine what you were thinking?? As you can see by the pix below, we received a lot more snow than was predicted, it was originally predicted to be one or two inches. Right now it is 25F (the low tonight will be 15F) and still snowing lightly, I hope it stops soon; I have a lot to do tomorrow

Winter wonderland out my backdoor.

This is a snow cake on my patio table lolol

Snow and Knitting

This is my view from the back deck. It snowed all day Friday and most of Saturday, big wet heavy snow that would have melted fast if it had not frozen over again during the night. Di played slip and slide when I took her out this morning, but she loved it yesterday. We went out for a walk after the snow/ice/rain stopped to get both of us some exercise and the dogs, too. It was wonderful, there was no wind and the sidewalks were relatively dry. Di had a wonderful time sniffing through the snow. Poor loopy Lola was not so happy, she kept try to leap into DD2’s footsteps so she would not have to plow through the snow when we went to the field. It was funny, but pitiful, poor prissy doggy did not want to get her feet wet.

They closed my office Friday morning, which was great, I sat and watched movies and knit all the rest of the day.

I am still working on two different socks, the plain vanilla ones I originally started out of the yarn that was a mess, and the pair from the mystery yarn ball swap (MYBS). Since the plain vanilla ones were already on the #2 dpns, I went and purchased another pair to start the MYBS pair. I did not like them, they are bamboo and only 5 inches long, but I wanted to get started so I got them and cast on. It was amazing, it is so much easier to knit with the shorter dpns, they don’t catch each other and they don’t get in the way. I did not thing that an inch or two in length would make this much of a difference, but I am finding them to be much nicer to work with. Once I finally figure out how magic loop knitting works I will probably prefer that, but for some reason I just cannot get my mind around how it works. I guess this will require a class as I have taken the tutorials I find on the Internet and still don't get it..

What is your favorite length or method for knitting socks?

I am hosting a conference for work this week and I hate it. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking of the things I have forgotten or still need to be done. It started as 30 people and has grown to 90; thank God someone is helping me. However there are presentations that she cannot prepare that I am stuck with and I hate that. I hate using PowerPoint, but I am glad I at least know how to use it.

I hope everyone had a great weekend with lots of time for knitting.

It snowed all night Thursday, my barrels in the front yard looked like soufflés instead of flower pots, and the bench was way too snowy to sit on. The dogs were not happy about going outside; the snow was up over the door frame by almost 5 inches, so they had to plow their way through it. Poor Lola stayed in Di’s footprints so the snow did not swallow her up.By evening the sun had been up and the snow had begun to melt, the poor little daffodils are trying to bravely poke their sunny heads out of the snow, but I am not sure if they will recover this year. There was still enough snow for me to get to shovel (I bought the my first snow shovel) some of the driveway and walkway so that it did not ice over during the night.

My office building was closed and my Internet was down, so no work me, boooohoooo. . . NOT! But the yarn mess is almost ready to be wound into a cake (?) of yarn. :-)

ffi
This week, Jeannette took the first sentence in 6 of her favorite books...you fill them in...with the right words or even better, my responses are in bold.

And...here we go!

1. "In a hole in the ground there lived a pretty flower waiting to come to life in the spring."

2. "I am freezing cold, but that ain't no matter."

3. "After dark the rain began to fall again, I closed my self in the house and sat down to knit."

4. "I received a booty of yarn from the hold of the Spanish galleon."

5. "There was a hand in the darkness, and it was holding a lamp to guide me."

6. "Accidents ambush the unsuspecting, so I try to always suspect lolol."

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to knitting, tomorrow my plans include nothing and Sunday, I want to knit!

Snow

I woke up to snow this morning, so I decided to work from home, not a big deal and something we are authorized to do. HOWEVER, at 10:00 I received an email tell me the building was closed and all employees were being sent home. BUT, since I decided to work at home today, this meant I got to put in the full 10 hour day, I was not being sent home and got to keep on slogging away at my computer. Being the good government employee that I am, I couldn’t stop and knit, or make a pot of soup, or even work on my snarled yarn mess. Don’t ya hate it when you make a bad decision like this. . .

It is still snowing (since 6am) and it is getting very deep. For a while there where white out conditions, I could not see past the deck, nor across the greenbelt and it is supposed to snow until tomorrow morning. Did someone forget to mention that it is the end of March?

These pictures are of the snow in the front yard. Di stepped off the walkway and fell to her chest in the snow since it is deeper in the grassy areas than on the concrete. It is hard to believe that it was in the 70’s last week. Look at the sad little daffodil poking its head out of all that snow on the barrel. I wonder how deep it will be in the morning.
This is how deep it is on the deck. I had to open the door (to shake a rug that my loverly cats got too fuzzy to deal with) and a foot of snow fell on the oak floor, grrrr.

My day is almost over (I decided I deserve a lunch break today) so I guess I will go work on the sweater of many stitches.

Have a great day!

SNOW and Pictures

It snowed again; my area recieved more than a foot of the powdery white stuff. I am almost positive I will be cleaning out the garage in January so I can park there, but for today I was lucky I did not have to go in as you can see by this picture. The one below is the drift at my back door.I felt very sorry for my poor Di when I let her out this morning

This is a pix of the three small hats I sent to Marilyn last night, they will be okay, but as I said earlier, I will not be knitting with that yarn again. YUCKY!

Well, the Big Ass Wrap was frogged. I hated the way the ends were curling, an since I am using such a bulky yarn for this one, the curl was awful. So I frogged the entire thing (it was more than half done) and restarted the whole thing with a garter stitch edge. This picture below is the start of the new one, I kind of like the way the garter stitch looks at
the bottom edge. I am trying to decide what color to use for the embroidery on either end (very basic) with a few crystal beads. I found a scarf pin to be used with it, though the picture is crummy, it is very cute owl, I think my daughter will like it.
I hope everyone has a happy and productive day!

Clarification, Contest and Late

You know, I reread my comment on shopping on Black Friday, and I think I should restate my position as it sounds very harsh. I have no problem with people who shop on the holiday weekend, if that is how they want to spend their time, what I have a problem with is people who are so crazy for a deal that they can trample a man to death. I know that many people agreed with me about shopping, however I bet there were a lot more who disagreed. Another problem is how the retailers feed the frenzy, they make people feel that they have to get it on Black Friday or they will not be able to afford whatever it is they are trying to purchase, which is crazy, because in many instances the same item goes on sale three more times before Christmas. Anyway, I just wanted to say that my problem isn’t with people who shop (though how anyone could stand the crowds for a “deal” is beyond me), but with the frenzy and the mania around the shopping.

The contest winners are (drum roll please. . . ) For the most entries, Marie is the winner, even tho she said she did not enter, simply because she took part and had the most entries. Thank you Marie. In the random drawing, the winners are CraftyChick 128 and Turtle. Please send me your addresses to georgi dot wellington at gmail dot com and I will be mailing the stuff out this weekend. I will have pictures as I mail. Thank you to everyone who participated, I enjoyed reading your comments throughout the contest. :-)

Well, for the post a day (National Blog Posting Month), I only did 22 out of a possible 30, which is much better than I normally do, but not posting every day. Nevertheless, when I have to resort to drivel, I figure no one wants to read it anyway. I am going to attempt to keep up the momentum, I know that I hate it when I go to someone’s blog that I love to read and the posting is not up to date, you know, those people who blog once a month, but what they write is great to read. Very disappointing.

I was late for work today because of the pretty(and cold)snow. I walked out to my car this morning and found a huge pile of snow in the shape of a car. It snowed all day yesterday and my car decided to let the snow sit on it so it was in camouflage. I battled my way to the car, started it, grabbbed the scraper/brush and started brushing it clear. It took me forever, I had no gloves or boots on and I became very cold very quickly. The snow was up to the knees of my pants and I sure wish I could park in the garage. I think I will be buying gloves and boots this weekend! Brrrrrrrrr

Have a wonderful day!
