Whiskers on Wednesday

Like any fool that has more pets than sense, I purchased a Furminator in an attempt to control some of the pet hair roaming through my house. When we got home Sunday, we had to vacuum the furniture before we could sit down, (in fact that ranked up there with cleaning the litter boxes) they turned our red couch grey and the olive chair was black. I don’t even have to discuss the dogs, as they both hate the furminator and won’t come near me when they see it in my hand; however, Jackie boy loves it. Jack is our fattest (and fluffiest) cat and the most sensitive about being touched. If I reach out for him, he will pull away, but if I am sitting still, he will come up and pat me with his paw telling me he wants loves. I was sitting on the floor paying cards last night, Jack did his normal patting routine for attention, and I petted him for a few minutes, noticed the Furminator sitting near at hand, and started using it on him. He loved it. He didn’t even mind when I ran it down his back in the wrong direction. I must have pulled a pound of hair off him and he enjoyed every second of it. Of course, this drove Onyx nuts, she can’t stand it when Jack receives attention she feels should be hers, so she proceeded to sit next to me and ignore us both. Therefore, when Jack finally was bored and moved on, I started on her. She hated the Furminator when we first purchased it and would not let anyone use it on her, but I guess watching Jack enjoy it made her think it was cool (cats are so human about some things) so let me use it on her. But Onyx decided that the best part was playing with the fur I had already removed and thought it was keen fun to bat it around, I guess it was very soft to play with.

Jill, of course, is such a b-cat, she would not let me go near her with the Furminator, she just glares at me.

Whiskers on Wednesday

I have been so sleepy; Di has not been sleeping well, which means that I am not sleeping well (but more on that tomorrow.) Since today is Wednesday, I want to tell you about Jill, our skinny cat, who has a face like Snagglepuss, except she is considered blue (gray) and not pink. She likes to play with the bottle caps from our water bottles, if she sees one sitting on the counter or on an end table, she will get it and carry it in her mouth like a dog to where she wants to play. Jill can bat a single bottle cap around the house for hours without getting bored, she is more likely to knock it somewhere that she can’t get to (under the closet door, under the stove, behind the washer) rather than grow bored. And if one of the other cats wants to get in on the fun, Jill will pick up her cap and carry it away so they can’t. In our last house we pulled the stove out to replace the floor and found hundreds of the darn things sitting there gathering dust. The other day I opened the front closet to get a pair of shoes, found a zillion more bottle caps, that I, like a responsible adult, picked up, and put in the recycling bin. Of course the slug daughter thinks it is terribly funny, so she doesn’t bend over to pick up a single one (or anything else) lololol.

Bottle caps are not Jill’s only fun pastime; she also likes to beat up Lola, our Chihuahua. Lola can be sleeping soundly (normally under the blankets) and Jill will slink over to her and thwap Lola with her paw. She can do a repeat thwap so fast my mouth drops open, it’s almost like watching a cartoon character. I guess she likes the noise it makes, because she will do it continuously until Lola gets up and chases her (they have a love hate relationship, Jill likes to thwap Lola and Lola hates to be thwapped.) Jill does this in the middles of the night to, so whoever is in bed with them gets to wake up to the sound of cat paw against dog head, which is truly hilarious, because I thought it was the dog who was supposed to hate the cats.

I truly love my pets, they get me through the day (thought not so much the night).

Whiskers on Wednesday

This is a WOW post with no pictures:-). Remember when I posted about Onyx, the devil cat and her potholders, here? I have decided that she is just bored and likes to be mean. First, the minute she sees me with the camera, she drops the potholder and runs the other way, though I have never teased her with the potholder. This means the entire world is unable to see her evil cuteness. Now, she drops the potholder on my head at least once a day, the fiend. On top of that, she has decided she likes sleeping under the covers, which is not a problem; however, occasionally she will reach out and bat at my fingers, waking me up. I am almost ready to put all animals out of my room and close the doors at night, but they would just knot at the door or meow or bark until I am forced to let them back in. Yesterday, I laid on the couch to watch the news, I had Di at my feet, Lola at my hip, and Onyx was on my neck, this would have been okay if I had a neck, but it is almost none existent, so I was choking when I woke up (yes, it turned into a little nap). When I sit, she sits on me now, and knitting or reading must be accomplished around her, it is very funny. Jack (who is a very large and furry cat) also likes to sit on me, so he stretches out and lays half on me and half off on the left side, while Onyx sits right in the middle of my chest.

Can you tell I have very spoiled babies? Nevertheless, I cannot imagine life without them . . .

Happy knitting.

Whiskers on Wednesday

My kitties are very helpful. Like these pictures that are so odd looking, this was Jack helping me with the camera, in one instance his nose was on the lens.

Onyx’s favorite cat toys are terry cloth potholders (that use to be my favorites). She will carry them all over the house, up the stairs down the stairs; anywhere she plans on going, so goes one of the potholders. One day I thought I was being smart and picked them up and put them in the clothes hamper so they could be washed. The Evil Leader of the Evil Three got them out of the hamper and carried them back into the living room. Last week she dropped one from the loft onto my head. I am still trying to figure out if she did it on purpose. . .
