The Big Read is an National Endowment for the Arts program designed to encourage community reading initiatives and of their top 100 books, they estimate the average adult has read only six.
*Look at the list and bold those we have read.

I have read 56 of the hundred that are on the list and plan on reading another 6 or 7of them; however I am surprised by books not on the list. Let’s see, no Mark Twain, Jack London, or Stephen King (who everyone must admit, is the King of scary books). And while I adore Gone with the Wind, I do not think that Margaret Mitchell was that great of an author (and would the book be so popular if the movie wasn’t). I was glad to see that so many of Jane Austen’s books were on the list as they are great.

I did one of these book list things back in March 2007, http://smariek.blogspot.com/2007/03/livres.html. I don't know if the books are the same on these lists two, I think they may be very similar. I'll have to take a closer look when I'm less bogged down with stuff.
Oh BTW, you are not smoking the carpet. Yes, my blog posts are in French now. It is only temporary. It's sort of an experiment, and also an opportunity to practice my French (which I've been trying to learn on and off).
There is someone who copies my entire blog posts and reposts them on his blog. He does this with several knitting blogs. He must make money somehow by having people visit his site, I'm just not sure how. Anyhow, all the blogs posts he copies are in English language. Just for kicks, I'm experimenting with some French posts (although, very badly written French) to see if he will lose interest in copying my blog. Or perhaps he will repost my French posts, I'd find that amusing if he did.
My blog posts will eventually revert back to it's normal English self someday soon, I hope.
I thought about temporarily password protecting the blog (or making it private and unreadable) for a few weeks, but I decided not to because I know a lot of people visit my blog for the free patterns and I'd rather not temporarily "close up shop" if I can avoid it.
Ok you have me beat! I have to agree that the list was missing some fantastic books.
