Dogs on Thursday

And now for another sad version of Dogs on Thursday, with a funny. Di is not doing well, DD2 took her to her vet appointment today, and we are now injecting furosemide into her. We are trying this for 4 days, and then she goes back on the pills. There is nothing more than can be done, there is one treatment they can try, however they do not think it will work and it is verrry expensive. The vet she saw today told my daughter that once a Dalmatian develops heart issues, they are normally very resistant to any of the medications that are available. We still have to trick into giving her the huge number of pills she takes every day, but she is very sly. Last night I was giving Lola her hormone, and Di told me she wanted some, so I got her a spoon of peanut butter, before she would take though, she sniffed the spoon to make sure there were not any pills in it. Lolol

She has discovered that the tomatoes bushes are good things, I put her outside the other night and she walked to each bush to eat the tomatoes, and she is very picky, she normally will only take the ripe ones. Needless to say, DD2 and I are not seeing many of the wonderful vine ripened tomatoes.

I am a team captain for Dish Rag Tag, and I cannot wait to get started. I always have a good time with that. We are trying to think up a team name now, and I am so bad at that. I wish I were more imaginative and original.

Have a great day!

Topic #3

For the All Hallows Eve Dishcloth Swap:

Every holiday has oddball things available to use for decoration, have in the house, or wear - some things are stranger than others. What's the oddest/strangest/weirdest Halloween decoration you have ever gotten for your home? Or, if you've never had a "wow, did I REALLY buy that?!" moment - what's the strangest Halloween decoration you've seen somewhere else?

I think this topic is weird; after all, isn’t Halloween when we can get all weirded out and decorate to the max? The decorations for Halloween are supposed to be different, strange, and unusual just to meet the Halloween-type expectations. I do have to say though, that I once had a neighbor who had a horse pasture in front of their house that they decorated so much, that you could not see the house, and they let people drive through it (just like a Christmas exhibit, except for the colors, music, and type of decorations.) I just don’t have the energy to put that many decorations up or to take them down; if I did that, they would probably be the still out when it came time to decorate for Christmas. :-)

Topic 2

For the All Hallows Eve Dishcloth Swap:

Here in Atlanta, it’s finally cooling down, and beginning to truly seem like fall. I sit now with windows open, and the air is cooler than usual, and trees are beginning to change. For me, cool mornings, crisp evenings, and trees in red, gold and orange glory are the very best parts of Fall - What are your favorite parts of fall? How do you know it’s truly arrived where you are?

I haven’t been here long, but the nights have turned very cool, the days are shorter and the trees are already losing their leaves. My mums have bloomed, and the AC was shut down several weeks ago (and I can open my windows for the first time in years, allergies are not as bad here as they were in GA). The light in the sky always gets a special glow in the autumn, my favorite time of year (yes, even before the springtime). If I were an artist, I would stand outside in the middle of the day and paint in an attempt to catch that special light, as it is, I can only sit and appreciate the light.

Topic of the Week #1

The Topic of the Week at the All Hallows Eve Dishcloth Exchange is to get to know our fellow exchangers (or at least one of them) and to post what we learn about them on our blogs. I checked out Wendy N’s site, Musings from a Knucklehead. . .; she is a knitter, a teacher, and she has 88 posts for the year, a lot more than I do. She likes Halloween (she was born in the fall) and fall colors. We both like Granny’s favorite dishcloth pattern and weirdest of all, we both won a shopping bag from Jane at GrammieKnits. That is such a coincidence isn’t it? One other thing that I found we have in common, we are both willing to sit and knit, even if the house is not perfectly clean, imagine that :-)

I was assigned my partner for the exchange and I have already started shopping for her. I start knitting tonight so everything is ready and leaves on time. I hate being late for swaps, and refuse to have it happen again.

Real Knitting, Finally

I finally got a good picture of the dishcloth my swap partner sent me; I don’t know why I had such a hard time getting this picture originally. I guess I need to become a better photographer. Isn’t this pattern great? Moreover, I think the colors are great; it has become my favorite face cloth.

Have you ever noticed that it takes many stitches to knit for a fluffy person? I am making the sweater I found in Knitty, shown in my last post. I have not made a sweater for me before, so I was unsure of the sizing, etc. I cast on for the largest size (and it took many attempts since my tail was never long enough), but finally I got all stitches on the needles and started knitting away.
This picture is what I completed the first evening I had time to work on it (several attempts at swatching took up a great deal of time, as did my several tries at casting on.) I have now gotten much farther along, and am loving it, the green is not quite right in this picture; however we have horrible lighting in our hotel and I think it has affected the picture. Nevertheless, as I said, it takes many stitches when knitting for a fluffy person (and I am definitely fluffy) :-)

I signed up for Dish Rag Tag today; I think this will be fun. You can go here to sign up.

How do I Know it is Summer in My World?

I have lived in Georgia for the past 17 years, though I have now relocated to Colorado; however, when I lived in GA I hated summer because it was so humid. Most of the time I stayed inside anywhere that had air conditioning, which meant I could no longer garden (or at least it was not pleasant when I did) or go outside unless I wanted to feel like a limp rag. Therefore, for now I can say that I knew it was summer when I quit going outside and enjoying the world outside of 4 walls and air conditioning.

I hope this changes in my new world :-)
