Our Chihuahua was looking for a Fiber One bar in my knitting bag and decided the needle would be fun to break. She was not a pleasant car rider after she ate the entire hi fiber bar. . .

Work, Congress, and Contests

I have been so tired, that I plop in my chair when I get home from work, poor Di hasn’t had a walk in a couple of days. I worked 12 hours yesterday (all on the computer) and my eyes were a blur when I got home, I probably should not have driven, but needs must. This is supposed to be a very slow time of year for contracting, especially in the government as we are still working under a continuing resolution. Which brings me to another pet peeve- Why can’t congress pass the budget in a more timely manner? They manage to pass their pay raises and silly things, however a budget, any budget would be nice to have before 6 months into the year. I have decided that they need a punishment of some sort when they don’t have a budget ready for the new fiscal year, however since they pass the laws, I don’t imagine that happening. duhhh I have heard from a little mouse that we may not get one until August, and that will not be a good thing!Sorry about that, it really irritates me that they can spend a gazillion dollars for a stimulus package that may or may not work, but that can’t get a freakin’ budget in the works. Anyway, due to blurry eyes, knitting sits in my lap while I nap.

Everybody must be very tired of winter, because there are quite a few contests out there in blogger land.

Lucky

I have been very lucky this year, especially with contests (which I normally do not win.) I have won several and just won a couple more. Do you remember this post
when I discussed Survivor Gabon on Ravelry? I was very derogatory (shame on me, that will teach me to judge a book by its cover) about the contestants who were assigned to me, expecting Bob and/or Sugar to be the first contestants voted off. Guess what??! Bob won! Which means that I was the winner from group 7 on Ravelry. The rest of the group has been so generous I want to make sure and thank them all. But looky, I got my first two pair of Knitpicks Harmony needles. I have been dying to try them out, but could not justify it as I have every other needle I could possible want, but now I can try them without feeling guilty.
I also received some scrumptious yarn from Aunt Kathy that is very soft to touch and look at. Jane gave me a gift certificate to Amazon (just in time to buy some new books). I got note cards with cats on them; a yarn called Himalayas, that will make a great Urchin hat, and a Ravelry button. As I said, the people on my team were very generous..

I also won one of the tote bags that Darcy was giving away here. I am going to buy the book, Knit Two on my way home from work tomorrow night with a gift card I received for Christmas.

Veterans Day, Contests and Chatter

Happy Veteran’s Day. Please try to thank a veteran for the service they have provided to our country.

I think I screwed up my day off this week, you know, the federal holiday. I thought I checked the calendar and it showed Monday as the federal holiday for Veterans Day, though it really is today. But I seem to be the only one working today. What a stupid mistake, and why would the federal calendar say it was Monday instead of Tuesday? What a fruitcake!

Here is a picture of the scarf I have been working on (very slowly), it is soft and warm and I think my friend will like it.

Contests

I want to have a contest but I cannot think of a single reason to have one. I am bored with the same old thing. Should I have a 100th post contest or a Just Because contest or what? I am looking for any input I can get so please tell me what you think would be fun.

There are a couple of contests that I want to mention. First there is Barb’s at So The Thing Is . . .Blog, she is asking for help with her book. All you have to do is finish or change a couple of sentences that are on her blog and submit them to her. It sounds like a lot of fun and I think it is a creative way to get past a writing hump. Wish we could do this with a knitting hump. :-)

The other contest is at Waterborne – A Live-Aboard Blog and is about the Army of Women, Avon’s fight against breast cancer. All you have to do is post to your blog about it and leave a commment on Marilyn's blog and you will be entered for a surprise package. It is a very good cause and all of us need to work as hard as we can to find the cure for breast cancer; according to Avon, "This is your chance to be part of the research that will end breast cancer. Sign up for your sister, mother, daughter, granddaughter, best friend, and the woman you met last week."

I found another contest; this one is at Chrissy's Random Life: A Knitting Blog (she is also known as Yarn Sprout, which is the name of her store) and she is giving away the most beautiful 100% naturally died yarn. The condition being that you have to blog about the yarn once you receive, but is that very hard for a knitter to do? Go here to enter and please let her know I sent you :-)

Still Knitting and Whining

I have been beavering away on my sweater, but as I said, it takes longer to make a sweater for a fat person than a thin one. You would think that it would encourage me to lose weight, but I do love eating. :-) The sweater is looking good, the stitches seem even and smooth and no giant boo boos are appearing. I do think that I will knit the front and back together on the next one and do away with the side seams. It is now time for me to start the top portion, which is on a chart. I have never worked on a chart before so I am a little bit nervous about it. I think I may go ahead and cast on for the front before I start the lace on the top of the back. What a boob (or is it a chicken?). If any of you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I am still in a hotel and I am getting ???? (do not know what word to use). Yes, I am whining again. This is not the hardest thing in the world, at least we have a roof over our heads and everyone is healthy, but it is so small and privacy is a thing of the past. We move on the 21st of August and we are all getting very anxious. I think I just need to count my blessings instead of whining so much.

Dogs on Thrusday (and a Couple of Contests)

Since this is Dogs on Thursday, I have to share the good news, my Di visited a new vet a couple of weeks ago and she is doing much better. It seems that though it is normal for her to slow down at her great age, the arthritis in her knees was making her hurt more than the hips or heart issues that she has. The vet has given her a new pill that takes the constant ache away and she now wants to play and walk; in fact she doesn’t whine any more when I make her get off the bed to go outside, she jumps. This is great, she plays with Lola more, she walks farther (even though the altitude is bugging her) and she even chased a bunny rabbit the other night (the good thing is she is still not fast enough to catch them). Yeah Di!
