Yeah, We Found a House!

We finally found a house! Actually it is the third one we found, but the first one (which was perfect, 1960’s charm, but brand new kitchen) we where outbid on, they had a much quicker closing date than we could meet. Therefore, the other buyers got that house, the second one had a problem with shifting or expanding soil (appears to be a problem here in CO). The house we did finally get has four bedrooms, a family room, and all the other necessities in a house, and it has a pool. The neighborhood is good and it looks like it will hold its value for resale. It is not my favorite house but I know that I only have to live here a few years and then I can find my perfect fit. Besides, who needs a perfect house? My daughter is happy with it because it is close to her work, and my husband likes it because the yard is good, so it is a done deal, unless we have an issue with the home inspector.

Now, I need to find a LYS so I do not have to buy everything on line as I used to do. Does anyone know anything about a good LYS in the area? I am looking forward to visiting the neighborhood and see what the local stores are like. I already found a store that sells the best tamales I have ever tasted, it’s a mom-and-pop shop, but it is clean and the flavor is out of this world.

We are still in the hotel, and it is convenient to everything, but we will be out before the Democratic Convention in August when the rates go up to $699.00 a night, and no that is not a typo!

I was able to sit outside in the sunshine this morning and knit, such a wonderful feeling!

Summer is Here

Well now that Summer has OFFICIALLY begun.. what do you do to beat the heat? A nice tall glass of lemonade? Frozen Coffee? A dip in the pool? What's your favorite way to keep cool this summer as things heat up?

I like air conditioning :-) It keeps my allergies at bay and I can knit with heavier yarn and pretend it is cold outside. But I love the pool, I could stay in the pool for days sometimes, Di (my dog) and I will float for hours on our floaties with our cool drinks (water, beer, Kool Aid, or whatever) I will read while she chases the Japanese Beetles, then she will get back on her floatie and rest for awhile. I have been known to read an entire book this way, but I always try to stick with paperbacks, because Di will sometimes try to get on my floatie and tip me over, but its all good and we stay cool.

And the Winners Are-

Hi everyone, I want to thank all of you who took part in my Blogoversary contest. There were some great suggestions for improving my blog, such as pictures, more regular blogging, fixing the sidebar so that everything fits, and changing the color of some of the headings so they are easier to read. I appreciate all of your comments and hope to incorporate them into this blog.

The first winner of the contest is Grace at Lovin Comfort Knits. She will get the choice of the type of yarn, either the hank of lace weight or a skein of sock yarn. I have enjoyed her blog for a while now, she mixes great pictures in with her writing and I get pleasure from reading it.

The second winner is smariek of SMARIEK Knits, she gave great suggestions for my blog and came back several times to comment, but the greatest part is the number of people who visited thanks to her posting on her blog. She has a great blog with interesting tidbits about her life and about knitting.

Will both winners please contact me at glwellington at yahoo dot com so I can get the info to send out your yarn?

A few people suggested that my blog was all over the board with topics and not consistent enough, but I just cannot help that. I have had so much going on in my life that I just have to spout off sometimes and my life is more than knitting (blasphemy). Therefore, I do not think that will be changing; however, I hope I get to knit more now.

Thanks to everyone again, I appreciate everyone’s input!

How do I Know it is Summer in My World?

I have lived in Georgia for the past 17 years, though I have now relocated to Colorado; however, when I lived in GA I hated summer because it was so humid. Most of the time I stayed inside anywhere that had air conditioning, which meant I could no longer garden (or at least it was not pleasant when I did) or go outside unless I wanted to feel like a limp rag. Therefore, for now I can say that I knew it was summer when I quit going outside and enjoying the world outside of 4 walls and air conditioning.

I hope this changes in my new world :-)

Life goes on. . .

I have been getting great suggestions for my blog, most of them having to do with pictures, so I guess I will have to play search and find with my camera so I can start offering more pictures. Of course, it won’t be this post, but the next one, because I am not sure if I can find my camera, it may be packed with all of my household goods.

We are still living in a hotel; we probably will be for another 6 weeks. The cats and dogs don’t mind it, but it is wearing thin in my opinion. So far we have looked at 67 houses within a 30-mile radius of my new job, (we did not take an advance house-hunting trip) and we are scheduled to look at 4 more tomorrow. I found a house with a pool that I like, but now that it is within reach, I am not sure if I want to make the effort to clean and care for a pool. Just shows that you don’t always know what you want until you have it handed to you and then have to take care of it :-)What do those of you who have pools think, should I get the house with a pool?

I have started my job, and everyone is having a hard time adjusting to the altitude, I am so tired at night, that I just look at the knitting sitting next to me and close my eyes. Maybe Saturday I will take it out to the pool and enjoy the non-humid sunshine.

Blogoversary :-)

Yes, I survived a whole year of blogging, though it has not always been constant. Today is my Blogoversary! It was one year ago today that I set up my first blog so
that I could enter a swap (it was one for Hogwarts swap kit) and it has been very slow going, but I think I finally have the hang of it. In fact, it is now more fun
than it was when I first started, it used be like pulling teeth for me to come up with a subject, but now I love it.

Now it is time to try something new, so I want to hold a Blogoversary contest, this means I can try something new and celebrate at the same time. I have not hit the big time as far as blogs go, so if you are one of the few people who normally read my blog you will have a great chance of winning.

There will be two different kinds of yarn, the first person drawn can choose between a hank of lace weight yarn or sock yarn and the second person drawn gets the other yarn. I hope to have some other goodies thrown in, but who knows.

Here are the rules:
1. Leave me a comment and your name will be entered one time.
2. Mention my contest and link me on your blog and your name will be entered a second time.
3. Make a suggestion as to how I can improve my blog and will be entered a third time.
4. Come back and comment on at least two other posts and you will be entered yet another time.

The contest will end at midnight, June 22, 2008.

Good Luck, and Thanks for Entering!!!

I am now in Lakewood, CO

Yeah, we are now in Lakewood Colorado, living in a Residence Inn (with 3 cats, 2 dogs, a husband and a daughter) until we find a house. Our trip from Atlanta was very smooth and uneventful, which was a relief. We got halfway across the country without any accidents, vehicle incidents, lost pets or illnesses. It was great! We checked into our hotel at about 3 and contacted the real estate agent right away. We start looking for a house at 9 in the morning :-( and will stay at it until we can find something that meets our taste and all of our requirements (though all of us seem to have different requirements). I dread that, but I should get some knitting time in while we are driving from house to house.

Dishcloth exchange

So for this week's topic, make a post on your own blog sharing YOUR favorite pattern(s) with us! Don't have a favorite site? That's fine! Show us a photo of one of the cloths you have made and really loved, even if it was just a made up pattern!

I get dishcloth patterns wherever I can find them, but I have found that the Cloth of the Week (this is a yahoo group) site always has great patterns. There is always something challenging written into the patterns and Maille is always willing to assist us when we get into a sticky mess. Unfortunately, I am in the middle of moving to Colorado so I do not have any photos. However, I love her ingenious patterns.
