A Cat Tale and Friday Fillins

Remember the scarf that I finished with Noro Silk Garden that I have yet to take a picture of? It was lying on my bed last night waiting for me to weave in one more end and my cats found it. They think this is the most wonderful yarn in the world and would like a bed made out of it. I looked over and Jack and Onyx were laying there nuzzling up to it like it was their mama and fell asleep on it. I told them that it needed to be dry-cleaned, but they just yawned and turned over. I evidently love my kitties more than I should.

1. The last band I saw live was too long ago to remember.
2. What I look forward to most on Thanksgiving is being with family and sharing the cooking with my daughters.
3. My Christmas/holiday shopping is not even thought of yet.
4. Thoughts of sugarplums fill my head.
5. I wish I could wear skinny jeans without looking like a ballon on a stick.
6. Bagpipes are very cool.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to nothing but reading and knitting, tomorrow my plans include making bread, knitting, watching the snow and Sunday, I want to do the same thing all over again!

Frogging*&^%

As you know I am working on a simple one row pattern scarf, nothing hard or advanced, all I had to was make sure I counted once in a while to make sure I wasn't adding or dropping stitches. This is stuff that a prudent knitter does so they do not have to frog a zillion rows of work. And I made it harder on myself by thinking I did not need any stitch markers, even though one of the first things I learned was to use them. Well, on this easy, one row lace scarf, I just had to frog 5 rows because I was neither paying attention, nor was I prudent (you can read that as I was not counting and did not use stitch markers). How silly is that? I can’t believe I did that and frogging back when you have yarnovers and stitches knitted together is not a quick process. I guess we all need a reminder once in a while, maybe???

Yarn is a Wonderful Thing!

Yeah, I got new yarn last night, despite the title of yesterday’s post. I won the Sandra Singh 4 year Anniversary contest from Darcy, so when I got home last night there was the wonderful Malabrigo sock yarn in the lettuce colorway. It is wonderful to touch and I cannot wait to use it. Thank you Darcy and Sandra!
I also received the first shipment from the Mean Girls Sock Club and it is great (and already paid for lolol). I will take pictures when I get home and post them later.

Tonight I am going to knit, knit and knit :-)


1. No matter where I go, the place I like best is home.
2. My favorite thing for dinner lately has been grilled hamburgers.
3. Lola always likes to bark! bark! bark!
4. A nice long walk makes me sleepy.
5. I could really use some good news.
6. When all is said and done, life goes on.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to knitting and reading, tomorrow my plans include chores, movies and knitting and Sunday, I want to play in the garden, read and knit!

I love the color, tho my pix does not do it justice (of course). I am starting a pair of plain vanilla socks now, and I will be practicing "kwitting" while doing it. :-)

It snowed all night Thursday, my barrels in the front yard looked like soufflés instead of flower pots, and the bench was way too snowy to sit on. The dogs were not happy about going outside; the snow was up over the door frame by almost 5 inches, so they had to plow their way through it. Poor Lola stayed in Di’s footprints so the snow did not swallow her up.By evening the sun had been up and the snow had begun to melt, the poor little daffodils are trying to bravely poke their sunny heads out of the snow, but I am not sure if they will recover this year. There was still enough snow for me to get to shovel (I bought the my first snow shovel) some of the driveway and walkway so that it did not ice over during the night.

My office building was closed and my Internet was down, so no work me, boooohoooo. . . NOT! But the yarn mess is almost ready to be wound into a cake (?) of yarn. :-)

Yarn and Friday Fill-Ins

I was just perusing the Elann Sneak Peak and I have to say there is some wonderful looking yarn. Don't you just love this and this-

Contest and yarn

There is a contest at Elevenses and it is about books, which is okay as all knitters read or listen to audiobooks (how's is that for a generalization?). Alll you have to do is tell Justine who your favorite literary character is (if you are lucky enough to be able to single out a single character, I wasn't.) I have fallen in love with one of the new colors for the darn scarf. It is a chocolate brown and looks so wonderful, it makes me think of a wonderful smooth chocolate. It looks great with the other colors in the darn scarf, I would take a picture, however I know that I cannot do it justice.

New Yarn

I ordered some yarn from Elann and received the box last week,
they ship much faster than I expected. I got some fun yarn, some serious stuff and a couple just to try (that I am not sure I like) but I cannot wait to start knitting. Look at the great colors. I was hoping you would be able to read the lables, however, the light sucks in this house, we are still changing out fixtures. and I am a crappy phtographer, but I am practicing. :-) The first one is called Highland Bulky and it is very soft and will make a wonderful hat and scarf combo or a sweater.

This is a heather color, Highland Chunky, soft and poufy. Of course I like it, so I only ordered 3 skeins of it.


This is Cotton Joy by Needful Yarns and I love the color, but I am not sure if I like the yarn, which is sad since I bought a lot of it.
Koala is Italian and is very soft, a blend of wool and alpaca; I love the color.




The yarn below is called Bamboo Fusion, a blend of bamboo, cotton, and a touch of acrylic (this will help the garment keep its shape, you know how stretched out cotton can become).How in the world did I manage to get one great picture when the rest are so bad??

Pictures and Babbling, and Even Some Yarn

I have to work this weekend, which is not a fun thing as I have worked late every night this week also. It is the end of the fiscal year for the federal government, so those of us who have to spend the money get to work a lot of overtime. I do not think I will get a weekend or an evening off until after October 1st.

Remember I told you we took time off from unpacking to go sightseeing? Here is a picture of Lambspun of CO, the building used to be a farmhouse and now it is a Yarn shop and a café. The picture is off their web site, because I could not take pictures without a camera and camera battery, but this is what it looks like, the area behind the shop is a golf course.

Here is a picture of the yarn and needles I purchased while I was there, I knew
I wanted to make a hat from the yarn, so of course I needed a new set of needles (my Options needles did not have a cord short enough, and I did not have a set of size 11dp’s.) Wasn’t that a good excuse to get some new needles?
The only problem with the Knitpicks Options is that it has removed the need for new needles in most instances, which is sad, as new needles are so much fun.
The yarn is Lamb’s Pride Bulky in cranberry, the yarn feels good and the colorway is pretty. As you can see, the hat will be done tomorrow, so one more Christmas present down!






On our way home from Ft. Collins, we took a side trip, as the shortest route is never the one we take when we go for a ride. We found a store that deals with Alpaca clothes and yarn. The owner actually raises alpacas, but she also imports clothing from Peru. She had the most wonderful store, everything was very soft a touchable. I found these two hanks of yarn that I fell in love with. I am making something soft and wonderful for me.




I just read a great book called “Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Burrows. It takes place a year after WWII ends as the island of Guernsey is recovering from the German occupation. The story is told in a letter format, but is charming and heartbreaking at the same time. No knitting in it, but a good story all the same. The book was started by Mary Ann Shaffer, but when she became too ill to complete the story, her niece Annie Burrows completed the book. I enjoyed the book, and the chatter regarding the occupation was terrible but interesting.

DOT Dog Days of Summer Swap

Wow, I got the most wonderful swap package from my secret pal at Dogs on Thursday. She made both of my dogs blankies, which they both love
(see the pictures below of Lola sleeping in her’s)
and of course Jack thinks the blankies should be his.
She also included the most luscious yarn, Araucania’s Nature Wool that is soft and wonderful (but my batteries in my camera died as I was getting reay to take a pix of it, grrrrr). There was a darling key chain,
vanilla cookies for dogs, chocolate tea and Turtle Check Mix for me. In addition, Criquette did not forget the cats; she sent Jack and Jill a pack of snacks (that they got in a fight over) and Onyx a box of white cheddar crackers that I made her share with me. :-) then there was this huge glove / groomer that works on all of the animals, which is great!
Thank you Criquette, I appreciate everything you sent and I loved your wonderful letter to me.

Blogoversary :-)

Yes, I survived a whole year of blogging, though it has not always been constant. Today is my Blogoversary! It was one year ago today that I set up my first blog so
that I could enter a swap (it was one for Hogwarts swap kit) and it has been very slow going, but I think I finally have the hang of it. In fact, it is now more fun
than it was when I first started, it used be like pulling teeth for me to come up with a subject, but now I love it.

Now it is time to try something new, so I want to hold a Blogoversary contest, this means I can try something new and celebrate at the same time. I have not hit the big time as far as blogs go, so if you are one of the few people who normally read my blog you will have a great chance of winning.

There will be two different kinds of yarn, the first person drawn can choose between a hank of lace weight yarn or sock yarn and the second person drawn gets the other yarn. I hope to have some other goodies thrown in, but who knows.
